ALPMA Summit 2014 – Thrive & Prosper

1st Sep 2014

I have just been in Melbourne attending ALPMA Summit 2014 and returned inspired and recharged.

Every year the Australasian Legal Practice Management Association (ALPMA) organises a Summit. The Summit presents an opportunity to gain a fresh perspective on the practice of law. Through a mixture of talks, workshops, dinners and trade displays attendees are exposed to new ideas and challenged about their future direction. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, attendees network, make friends and support one another.

It is all too easy to continue doing next year what you are doing this year and what you did last year. The challenge is to learn, grow and change – personally and as legal practices. As an example of the pace of change in law look at the winner of this year’s ALPMA/Telstra Thought Leadership Award. Hive Legal has only been in existence for 8 months and operates as a virtual firm.

This year’s Summit topics included: Thriving & Prospering in a bigger Australia, Your Firm in 30 Seconds – Developing a Clear Positioning Strategy for New Business Success & Women as Leaders and Leading lawyers: Effective Leadership

Matrix Solutions has been involved with ALPMA as a sponsor for 5 years because we want to contribute to the future of legal practice by providing strategic IT support. We recognise the benefits and the potential that the right technology can deliver to the legal sector.  Each year we bring along our own ideas and visions for information management. For example: our hosted desktops for lawyers or driving the paperless office with digital document management. We always come away from Summit enriched by new ideas and new friendships.

ALPMA does so much more than the Summit, organising seminars, providing online learning and conducting research. ALPMA is the peak Australasian professional association for legal practice managers and leaders. Members include practice managers, senior executives, specialist managers (like HR, Marketing & Finance), Managing Partners, lawyers with management roles and sole practitioners.
